Writing a book can be associated with different experiences or emotions. But for the sake of this article, it will be classified into two. It can either be easy and enjoyable, or tedious.
And that will depend on the writer.
But the end result of the effort – regardless of the experience – is that the book should come out well and possibly be a bestseller.
The experience each writer goes through is different each time, as sometimes the writer gets the complete idea from the very beginning of the book, while other times it takes a lot of brain-racking, cancelling, reworking and editing. But with all these processes, there must be an end goal in mind. The people must be able to connect to the book.
Getting people to connect to your book is not difficult. It just takes giving people an experience with your book. Below are some steps that will show you how to write a book that people can connect to.
Give your readers something to look forward to.
When writing, it is very important to give your readers something to look forward to. For example, when writing a novel, you can employ suspense, plot twists and delayed conflict resolutions to give readers what to look forward to.
You can also give them ideas of a possible pleasant ending, such as the promise of a romantic relationship between two likeable characters. This helps the readers to stay emotionally connected to the book so as to see the outcome of the whole situation.
Give your readers an experience.
Whether you are writing a novel, a motivational book or a book of any other kind of genre, one thing your readers are looking for is an experience. They want to feel like a part of the whole book experience. Some of them would love to put themselves into the experience of the characters in the book. And if they can successfully put themselves into it, or the experience of someone around them into the book, they will become emotionally invested and be able to connect to the book.
Ensure proper proofreading and editing.
When writing a book, it is essential to note that books are properly edited so that readers will be able to follow and understand. Keep in mind that you as the writer will not be there with them when they read. You will not be able to clarify your unclear intentions. Therefore, you need to write in such a way that your thoughts and intentions are well understood.
Write a book that meets people’s needs.
This point concerns all book genres. Every book has the ability to foster emotional connection with its readers. And all types of books are supposed to meet people’s needs, whether physically, in the case of do-it-yourself manuals; emotionally, in the case of novels or motivational books; spiritually, in the case of spiritual books; academically, with educational books for learning. You could also write books that talk about specific themes, such as love, friendship, terminal diseases, oppression or anxiety.
If readers cannot learn anything or get any form of knowledge or answers from a book, they will not be able to connect to it.
Parting words
As a writer, bear in mind that people are looking to your books for answers or an experience. Try to give them that. Whenever you write, strive to meet the needs of the people, and don’t just focus on what you want.
These are not necessarily all the things you need to note about writing a book that people can connect to, but these points hold vital information that would help you with your writing and your readers.
