Every writer, whether dead or alive, usually begins writing from the level of a newbie till they graduate to the level of a pro. In between these two levels, a lot of underground work is done. Take for example, the smooth sailing of a duck on the surface of water. When you see the amount of work the webbed feet of the duck does under the water, you will understand that that is what fuels its smooth sailing.
So, you want to write like a pro? You want to captivate your readers with the magnet in your words? Then, you need to put into practice the following blueprints I will be sharing with you.
1. Read before you write
A good number of writers want to jump the process. They don’t want to read but they are eager to write. Doing that will not only make your writing a whack, it will turn off anyone who reads your work. To avoid this trap, it is important you read books that resonate or are tailored towards the niche you are interested in. This will broaden your perspective. It will make you encounter different styles of writing that you can always adopt when you are making any composition.
2. Write everyday
The next step to ace your writing and become a pro is to write everyday. Write when you feel like writing, write when you don’t feel like it. Make sure no day passes by without you documenting your thoughts, inspirations and perspectives. Doing this will give fresh feathers to your writing. It will also rid you of writer’s block. A good way to do this is to subscribe to daily writing prompts. This will keep you on your toes about your determination to be a pro in writing.
3. Record your thoughts
There could be occasions when you don’t have access to your pen and paper or doing so will limit the floor of inspiration at that particular moment. Record your thoughts by using audio recording mobile apps that you can later write out or expand as the case may be.
4. Connect with other writers
There is no writer who grows in isolation. You need to connect with other writers to know and learn what is trending in the writing world. Subscribe to writing groups on social media and network with writers. You can collaborate with other writers to create a body of work either a collation of poems, short stories or even plays. When you connect with other writers, you get to know of writing opportunities and even internships that can hone your writing skills.
5. It is not all about you
Even though your writing belongs to you, it is not actually for you. Always bear in mind that whatever you write is meant for someone who needs to read to get inspiration, to help push farther to the finishing line. So, having this at the back of your mind will help you tailor your writing to help people and provide solutions to their problems.
6. Don’t hide, get seen
Many people regard themselves as writers but they are ghosts walking on social apps. No one knows them because they are not active users of the social apps. As a writer, desiring to become a pro, you will make yourself visible on major social media apps like Facebook, Medium, Twitter, Instagram and others that give a platform for writers. Start to shun your writings on social apps. You will get feedback that will help you in your writing journey.
Conclusion
The more you write, the more people get to notice you. And the more people get to notice you, the greater the opportunities this can bring to you. Many writers have gotten mouth watering writing gigs because they stayed true to their craft which is writing. You too can get to that level if only you adopt the steps shared above.
